Book Review: And The Mountains Echoed

If you've read the books The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns, I bet you would love to read And The Mountains Echoed too. All these three books were written by Khaled Hosseini. Just like his first two books, every page make you wanna leap more. The truth is, I haven't finish reading it yet but I am determine to and would find some free time out of my very busy calendar.

This is a story about family and honor. Any tale about family would surely touch anyone's heart. The first part of the book talks about Abdullah and Pari, the siblings who live with their father, stepmom and half-brother after their mother died. This is about love. This book also tackles social issues. The wars and betrayals.

I'm yet to discover the twist of the story and I hope to be back with the full review soon. Bye for now.

Women's Beauty Secrets

Women's beauty then was regarded as a powerful tool of getting a place in the society where fame and power only belongs to men and although the status and implication of women's power in the present day had already changed but the idea of beauty and vanity remains in a woman's disposition regardless of race, color, ethnicity and faith.

In the present day, innovations in technology doesn't spare the world of vanity, beauty and cosmetics from expanding and reaching the wider and growing market of beautification but no matter how advance our technology is and how many new discoveries and inventions are uncovered, the healthy benefits of natural products on skin can't be brushed off and this why many cosmetic companies go back to aged-old era and employ all but natural ingredients in their formulations.

Whilst the chemical compounds incorporated in beauty preparations give longer shelf-life to the products and provide ease of use, some disadvantages are manifested in sensitive individuals who contacted allergies and other unwanted skin reactions. I know, as a woman who love to care of your skin, you wouldn't compromise it with a good-for-nothing commercial preparation which would cause nightmare but at the same time you wouldn't want to leave your skin unattended.

The Mother Nature provides us with all the natural ingredients that can be used raw without having to go through chemical processes and when these things are applied and put into practice in regular basis, the optimum results on skin can be evidently seen.  Another good thing is you don't have to spend fortune to make a jar of cream or a tube of facial scrub because most of these ingredients can be found in your kitchen pantry.

Here are some of the naturally occurring fruits and foods which are abundant in nature which you can use and add to your skincare regimen which will give the same if not more beneficial effects on your skin.

1. Olive oil

Olive oil contains vitamins and nutrients
loaded with antioxidants. Mixing olive oil with
castor or jojoba oils can be used as facial cleanser in what is commonly known today as OCM or oil cleansing method where the idea of oil repels oil is believed to be the reason why it unclog pores and strip off the skin with unwanted excess sebum that caused pimples. As a result, the skin will be clean, smooth and oil-free.

It can also be use to moisturize your scalp thus preventing dryness and dandruff. When mixed with sugar, it aids in removing dead skin cell transforming your dull skin into radiant one and when mixed with honey and lemon, it can smoothen dry rough feet.

2. Lemon

It is a very useful home remedy beneficial in treating various skin problems.  Lemon is an excellent bleaching agent and when used regularly, lemon juice can lighten darker areas on the skin like acne or wound scars. If you find lemon juice irritating, you can dilute it with honey or water before applying to your skin.

Applying lemon juice on the face will help absorb oil from the skin thus reducing the frequency of pimple breakout .

3. Honey

Honey has been used for many generations in alternative medicine. Its benefits on skin and total wellbeing can't be discounted.  Honey is used in many regimens to help improve and sustain beautiful skin. It is employed as moisturizer to keep skin supple. Honey keeps the skin hydrated and improve skin areas that tends to dry and would prevent itching. It speeds up wound healing and prevent infection. It is used alone or in combination with lemon or milk to treat acne breakout.

4. Milk

Milk is a very effective skin moisturizer and is used as an ingredient for face masks and wash due to its whitening effect. In fact, Cleopatra the legendary queen of Egypt was known to take bath using milk to maintain her glowing skin.

You can use it alone as facial cleanser by
applying it directly on to your face and then rinse afterward. You can also make your own facial mask by combining it with honey, oats or banana. Yoghurt is a very good example of milk products you can use in your beauty recipes.

5. Oats

Oatmeal is used in many beauty products both commercial and homemade preparations. It has exfoliating properties that helps lighten skin thereby smoothing out skin discoloration. Oatmeal also helps remove dead skin cells and is very effective in treating mild acne and other skin conditions. It is used as an ingredient in many DIY beauty recipes like facial masks, facial and body scrubs because of its mild cleansing effect giving you a visibly younger looking skin.

Google Page Rank Update - Page Rank 1

Hi everyone!

I know this blog had been neglected lately and I'm guilty about that. I know I've been laying down many excuses as to why but the truth is, I really am busy.

It was four months ago when I started this blog and like I said, haven't been updating it that much. As I checked the Google Page Rank of my other blog  The Hijabi Musings which I'm constantly updating, I thought why not check the PR of What A Woman a Say as well and to my surprise, it got a Google Page Rank 1 now. Yay! Alhamdulillah! It was only four months of inconsistent blogging and Googke have already ranked it? Wow! I could imagine if I had updated it regularly!

Anyway, I would like to take this space to thank all of you for your support and to all the lovely readers who keep coming back! You helped me build this blog. I would try as much as I can to update this regularly so there would be something new for you to read once in a while.

Once again, thank you from the bottom of my heart!
